Hello Chillers. Just submitted MY movie to the Dare to Direct contest. May the best director win. smile.gif

Are we allowed to give links to our movies, or can they only be viewed during the voting period?

Here you go then. smile.gif It's an animated film, so here's a bunch of concept art pieces.

Wow.

So, is something like this a concept sketch?

And then this is an example of a frame from the movie?

And how long did that take you?

You had to have started this before you knew about the contest, right?

Very imaginative.

This project actually represents most of my high school experience. I first wrote the original poem for a creative writing class in my sophomore year, later illustrated it in a cartooning class in my junior year, and finally animated it in a video editing class in my senior year. Whew! The actual production of the movie itself took just under 3 months. Luckily for me I basically had NO homework that semester, or I'd never get it done. tongue.gif

And yes, the cartoon is a concept sketch. The CG frame isn't actually in the movie, but a test to see how the hand-drawn textures would look in a 3D environment. The whole movie basically looks like that shot. How's it look? smile.gif

Spectacular would be an understatement.

What software are you using to render the images?
It's impressive stuff, but then I like Edward Gorey looking things!

Why thank you. laugh.gif This was done in 3D Studio Max, the leading computer animation software. Ironically, this movie was made about a month before Maya conquered the CGI market. *lol* It was also a student version, which i think may be why I couldn't make my characters with bones. I animated vertex by vertex, so the animation itself looks a little, uhh... robotic. :S But I'm glad the look itself is as spectacular as you say. Despite its technological flaws, I think it has a chance.

Can you tell I'm a Tim Burton/Roman Dirge fan? *lol*

I looked at 3D Max when I wanted to do some underwater animation but I figured I didn't have the patience to make all those wire frames (I think that was the software, it rang quite a bell!), seems like I looked at it when "405 The Movie" was making a sensation all over the internet.

I'm a big Burton fan too, still in awe of his stop motion

I always wanted to see Burton and Gilliam collaborate on a remake of Lang's "Metropolis"

I can't argue with that, but something that's almost a century old and is beloved by a tight core of fanatics would be a lot more interesting than the latest retreading of "My Mother the Car"!

I am going to take this chance and promote the gargoyles comics since they are fantastic and disney is refusing to release the second half of the second season until they get better sales!

Buy them all at slavelabor.com!

You can also get the haunted mansion comics there too

Yes, Gargoyles DOES kick ass, don't it? Disney really needs to make more stuff like that. And they're coming out with a leatherbound collection of The Haunted Mansion? Ugh.... I wish they'd just IMMEDIATELY release the graphic novels if they intend to do so. I hate buying individual issues of ANY comic book. angry.gif

"anyway, looks freakishly scary... can't wait to see it..."

Hmm. Well, it's not REALLY that scary (just sort of creepy and spooky), but it's enjoyable nonetheless. Have you seen "Vincent"?

Yeah I hate the individuals too! I guess they are cool for the covers and stuff but having to wait two months for half an episode is ludicrous! I would much rather have a set every few months than little teasers here and there.
