I hope the creator of this film reads this. Autistics are not violent, they are not immoral. Your film portrays them as being both violent and immoral. Not to also mention, as delusional.
Please take your film down, and apologize to the Autism community. You clearly have never met someone who is truely Autistic. If you had real talent, you wouldn't have needed to take the cheap and dirty route, and make a film that gives people an opportuinity to make fun of the retard. There is a thriving Neurodiversity community on the internet. You cannot claim that those who are neurodiverse are the gross stereotype as you depicted. We are here, and we will prove you very wrong. |

My nephew is autistic. Very sweet boy, well unless you break his routine. But he's not mean at all.

My nephew is autistic. Very sweet boy, well unless you break his routine. But he's not mean at all. Did you see this film? Do you think it's at all appropriate for someone to depict a group of people, who already are prejudiced towards by society, as remorseless violent monsters? I mean, I have no idea where people get this from. Nobody would think of depicting minorities in this way. So it's ok, to teach people to fear innocent neurodiverse children? I don't see it as being any different than saying, oh look we have a psychotic toddler here who kills with no remorse. So you should all fear toddlers. Nobody would go in for that. It's like bullying a 3 year old. Only someone who has no compassion themselves would say this is a good message to send about people who already suffer enough from society's ignorance. It's prejudices like the ones in this film, that will only continue to justify bullying perpetuated on Autistic children. I don't see how Matt can justify creating this film. I mean really, if he's that ignorant, ok, I can understand that. It's no different than a propaganda film claiming that a certain minority is a plague on society, and should be feared. We no longer spread those prejudices and lies about minorities. When will people realize it's just as offensive to spread the same misinformation about those who are neurodiverse? |

First off, This is a "film/movie/short". It is NOT a documentary or a teaching tool of any kind, it is a "Movie".
Second, We do not stifle creativity even if it is offensive to some people, it is art to others and it is Just a movie. We are not the "PC" police and if everything that offended someone was removed from "life", you might as well be dead. third, I don't see or here that anyone ever states the person is "Autistic". The films' maker does state that he is "mentally retarded", big difference. ----- It is nothing more than a MOVIE, NOT A DOCUMENTARY. *Any further demands to "remove this movie" will be deleted and the member risks suspension of their account. Calling this film prejudice is like calling works such as Rain Man or The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time prejudice just because they have characters with disabilities.
Oh and if you have not read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time it is FANTASTIC, and I highly recommend it. -------------------- **The fine print: Moderators do not "work" for Chiller/nbc/uni. You just reminded me of "Flowers for Algernon" which became "Charly" as a movie which I think earned Cliff Robertson an Academy Award.
Or consider Billy Bob Thornton's characterization of Carl in "Sling Blade", sympathetic but capable of some really bad stuff. Or Jackie Gleason as the "Poor Soul", they did a Christmas special that's become an annual classic. I enjoyed "Fascination Cadaverous" and went back and rewatched it, and am recommending it to everyone I am in contact with online. I didn't really even see that the "Toby" character was being portrayed in an unsympathetic way. I even remember a tv-movie with William Macy as a Watkins salesman that triumphed in spite of the hand fate had dealt him. I can't speak for the director of "FC", but I would bet money he wasn't plotting to make anyone mad with his movie, much the same way I didn't intend to tick off any Wiccans with my dog movie, but I still got virtually the same mail You can't please everybody! All of these films and novels are not trying to humiliate people with disabilites but raise awareness of how serioius these conditions are. -------------------- **The fine print: Moderators do not "work" for Chiller/nbc/uni. Flowers for Algernon is great! Thanks for reminding me, because it was about 12 or 13 years ago that I read it.

I know about them all because I like to watch TV, paraphrasing "Chance the Gardner" in "Being There" based on the Kazinsky novel of the same name.
Sorry I left it out, it's one of my favorites!! What great examples! Algernon is one of my favourites. All of these films and novels are not trying to humiliate people with disabilites but raise awareness of how serioius these conditions are.

Oops, Kosinski. I was just corrected by a quick search (although there are listings both ways)
He liked to be called "Yert-sie" rather than "Jersey", that much I do know -------------------- |

I loved "Flowers for Algernon" in school too.
I'm glad you fixed that above. I think Kazinski was the unibomber. I'm surprised nobody mentioned "Full Metal Jacket". The Private Pile thing. I still ask people what their major malfunction is. That character ended up a killer, but was very sympathetic. -------------------- Loney Childress

Flowers for Algernon is a fantatastic book and so is the movie! Extremely moving with Cliff Robertson and yes garnering him the academy award!! Ok far be it from me to be an asshole but!!!! I will state again, what gives you the right for creative censorship on a movie, which for one, never stated the young man in this movie is autistic? You apparently just assumed this. Makes an ass of you and me, second point, there is really no soap box for you to stand on! Every group that I know of and can be put in a box, ie: minorities, religeous, mentally handicapped, physically handicapped has had creative movies in which I'm sure that some group has been offended. Never does this give you the right to censorship!!! Period!!!

I watched this movie a long time ago when it was first put up and never once did I feel it was disparaging to the mentally challenged. I thought this was a pretty good short film and for someone to be asking for it's removal just simply astounds me! The nerve of some people! You know? You are what you do and if you find that this hampers your life as a mentally challenged person then I challenge you to step outside your box that you have seemingly put yourself in and look beyond. Rise above it and take care of yourself! The only person hampering yourself is you. Not a freakin' movie!!!
