FOUR-HOUR MINISERIES GREENLIT FOR SUMMER 2007 PRODUCTION
TWO-TIME OSCAR NOMINEE MIKAEL SALOMON SLATED TO DIRECT
NEW YORK May 1, 2007 A&E Network is set to team up with Ridley Scott (Black Hawk Down, Gladiator) and Tony Scott (Man on Fire, Top Gun) to recreate the Michael Crichton medical thriller "The Andromeda Strain," it was announced today by Bob DeBitetto, Executive Vice President and General Manager, A&E. Production on the four-hour miniseries will commence Summer 2007 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
"'The Andromeda Strain' is the perfect fit for A&E's unique brand of dramatic entertainment, featuring evocative stories, powerful characters and A-list auspices," said DeBitetto. "Ridley Scott and Tony Scott are two of the true visionaries of our time whose bodies of work have molded our perception of progressive storytelling, on film and television. We're thrilled to be working with them and their team on this iconic material."
Based on the debut novel by Michael Crichton, A&E's recreation of "The Andromeda Strain" will be directed by two-time Academy award nominee Mikael Salomon (Backdraft, The Abyss) with a script written by Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan (The Quiet American). Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, and David W. Zucker are Executive Producers for Scott Free Productions and Tom Thayer is Executive Producer for Traveler's Rest Films. A deadly bacteria code named The Andromeda Strain - is let loose after a U.S. government satellite crash-lands in Arizona. The bacteria unleashes a lethal plague that wipes out an entire town leaving only two survivors - an old man and an infant to provide clues to immunizing the population. As the military tries to contain the spreading disaster, only a hastily assembled team of scientists can hope to find a cure and stop the Andromeda Strain from spreading.

The Universal classics like "Frankenstein" and "Dracula" I've seen the most times in total, but of more modern era stuff I've probably watched "Cat People" seven or eight times and "The Funhouse" at least a half-dozen times of my own accord. Because my kids loved them so much when they were young, I've had multiple viewings of "Killer Klowns from Outer Space," "Spaceballs," "Labyrinth," and "The Witches."

"Soylent green is people! SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!!!!" This film is one of my big faves which I wouldn't mind viewing repeatedly when presented with a clear chance to do so, and all the more so since it features Bucharest-born Emmanuel Goldenberg, better known as Edward G. Robinson (Date of Birth: December 12, 1893, Bucharest, Romania-Date of Death: January 26, 1973), in this film, which was his final role as an actor. It's just a thought that I wished to express. Comics title series, each with a name which was the same as the films that were based on them, all 4 entries to the series of films based on Peter Benchley's novel Jaws, all 4 films based on Jack Finney's novel The Body Snatchers, both of the Dr. Phibes films, Dr. Terror's House of Horrors (1965), Chamber of Horrors (1966), and most of all, the Don Siegel-directed, Jennings Lang-produced 1971 film adaptation of Thomas Cullinan's Southern Gothic novel based in the trans-Mississippi theater of operations in the Civil War, both novel and film being titled The Beguiled, of course, said film featuring Clint Eastwood, Geraldine Page, Elizabeth Hartman, Pamelyn Ferdin, Jo Ann Harris, and Mae Mercer in the cast, and naturally there are many others that are big faves of mine which I can't name due to time and space considerations, but which I still would view repeatedly without fear of burnout from doing so.
