I actually vote for no fangs. It would be a lot more scary and gross if they had to bite with regular teeth. Have you ever had to chew tough meat? That meat gets ripped to pieces before you can swallow. Imagine the damage that'd do to a victim. Besides, fangs aren't part of the original vampire myth.

LOL, I knew this was eventually going to happen after the debate in the Rise thread.

I say they don't need fangs to be 'functional', however, fangs have become part of our imagery when it comes to Vampires.

Just as we now tend to picture Werewolves to still have some human aspects when shapeshifted, however in the original tales they would completely change into a wolf. It all comes down to imagery.

After all, the original western 'vampires', Vlad the Impaler, Madame Bavory didn't have fangs. Wasn't till Stoker came around and added them to his little tale.

As to me, I prefer the allure of a Vamp without fangs. Simply because it makes them that much harder to differentiate from normal humans. After all, the thing that makes the serial killer so scary is he/she could be the guy/girl next door. Now think about one that's nearly immortal and out for your blood.

As to the burger meat...well technically it wouldn't need to go that far. After all the two major arteries, the juglar and the one in your thigh, are close enough to the skin, that one could easily pierce them with their teeth without damaging too much of the other tissue. But hey, you get a rambuncious vampire....

Also, I've done a little study into serial killers. You'd be surprised how many actually believed they were modern day 'vampires', and to what lengths they would go to prove it.

Wow...sounds like it wod be fun. A friend of mine dated a "Modern day Vamp" dude was funny as hell, she also dated a self proclaimed "shapeshifter" that one was just creepy. So I can imagine what they go to prove their existance.

Vampires must have fangs for me. If they don't have fangs, they're not vampires.

The concept of vampires has been evolving since they were first "created". Early vampires lacked fangs, but they did evolve to include fangs (I think Bram Stoker was responsible for this). There may come a time, later down the road, when evolution will remove the fangs, but for now, fangs are an essential.

It looks like I'm with the majority here. I believe that they need them simply because it is all a part of a vampire's sex appeal. I also like this idea of vampires trying so hard to resist using them when they truly care about someone (i.e. Angel). Fangs are a necessity!

Most films (and TV series) dealing with vampires should, appropriately enough, have the vampires featured in them displaying fangs, as it would prove a most potent psychological weapon to use on the victim(s) in addition to the fangs being used to not only drain the blood from the victim(s) but also, in some of the films (and TV series), used to turn the victims into vampires after the blood has been drained from said victims.
