does anybody think the cell phone idea is good?
astralpictures
May 5 2007, 09:34 PM
To be honest, cell phone technology gives pretty bad video and it's be hard to carry a whole feature-length movie with it. Don't get me wrong... I'm all for experimentation and such, but I'm also partially realistic. How will you be able to capture things with such a small medium and make it have an impact?
horrorable
May 6 2007, 02:28 AM
I would think you would have to keep a small picture with it. Attempting to enlarge, you wind up with a blur and blocking.

Alright, These videos that are up on
http://youtube.com/profile?user=JamesDesperado are temporary, just until i get my new
video camera sometime this month, which is...
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5634192The camera I have right now is some
digital camera with no sound. But the "Deaths" I record, to me and my friends are funny. All i do is either get tortured or I torture my brothers and my best friends little brothers. No Sound yet, so no plot for these videos, but I promise you, when I get my new camera, There will be a plot and sound, and if my camera will do it, maybe it'll have some special effects.

Damnit.
Well, what do I do? ts already my name and everything
astralpictures
Jun 25 2007, 01:29 PM
Are you actually doing business deals under the name? Or is it just something you use as a label now? As just a label it should be fine, but you can't incorporate the name if it's already taken once you decided to get a business license.
Ben Pearce
Jun 25 2007, 01:34 PM
oh, alright, yeah, its just a label for now. Just a name. The reason im using that title is because its our school mascot. lol.
astralpictures
Jun 25 2007, 01:40 PM
Haha, that's our college's mascot too.
Usually no one will bother an indie filmmaker who is just doing it for fun and a little recognition. That's how we use Astral Pictures too. But as soon as you plan on making a serious movie with the idea to sell it under your company name, you need to pick a name that isn't trademarked already. Although you're probably safe now, if Red Dragon Productions is trademarked, they can make you pull the name off your stuff if they were inclined to do so. You can register your business with the state or with the federal government if you plan on doing business through many states, and a trademark will run you probably over $500 when all is said and done. Remember, this is essential if you plan on selling a product in the future and want to tack a name on your company that no one else can use.

I wasnt planning on making that the name if i get into actual movies. This is just for youtube. If I want to make a movie, I'll find a production company like A Band Apart or something if i want to make a movie.

Yeah, and definitely be careful with You Tube. A lot of corporate lawyers are starting to troll the site in hopes of catching someone either using one of their clients material or even their corporate name.
Typically don't put a name on something unless it's your own name, a trademarked pen-name, a website you own, or a legally formed corporation. This way it can save yourself some headaches.
You probably won't get any flack for what you've already put on there. But just a heads up for the future. After all, we live in such a legitious society these days.

But that's the danger Ben, saying it's "just for" Youtube. Youtube has come under fire lately, especially with Viacom suing them. It's a problem with today's internet and instant gratification society that copyright laws are ignored on the net most of the time. That's all fine and dandy, until someone like Viacom steps up and says hey, you're clearly violating our rights and we're suing for a billion dollars. The fact is that as soon as you make something tangible, even if it's just a video on your cell phone, then it becomes an actual product that is subjected to the laws governing business. We're saying your probably fine because most big companies don't care about small filmmakers like us, but that isn't guaranteed protection at all. The law is on their side, whether it's just on Youtube or not.

Jun 25 2007, 03:12 PM
To put it simply, and in other words, you would be better off and have more peace of mind, if you would change your name as soon as feasible. Then you would not have to worry about it at all.
Also, any new name you pick, run it through as many search engines as you can before deciding to use it. That might save you trouble later on.
