Breaker! Breaker! This is your favorite gear-jammin' whackaloon trucker, MartinKandell, up here modulatin' on the 2-way CB in his black International Transtar 2 cabover sleeper rig asking the following question: who among you has had the opportunity to see the 1983 film adaptation of the Stephen King novel Christine which has to do with a 1958 2-tone finished Plymouth Belvedere 2-door coupe which has a malevolent mind of its own that influences its latest owner Arnie, played by Keith Gordon, and kills anyone that Christine views as a threat either to her or to Arnie. This is enough to alarm Arnie's friend Dennis, played by John Stockwell, and Arnie's girlfriend Leigh, played by Alexandra Paul, because the influence exerted by the newly-restored Christine over Arnie is most unsettling indeed. For example, the car attempts to kill Leigh while on a date with Arnie because Christine is jealous of Arnie's relationship with Leigh; in another instance Christine returns to its original factory-new condition after being smashed to scrap by those bullies that pose a threat to Arnie, and she kills each of the bullies one by one by running one over and sending the car of another of them into a fiery crash, burning the bully alive; and in yet another instance Christine kills the owner of the salvage yard for whom Arnie works, Will Darnell, as played by Robert Prosky. The latter instance is sufficient by itself to alert Lt. Rudolph Junkins of the state police homicide investigation unit, as played by Harry Dean Stanton, regarding the car's intentions and the influences of the car on the psychological makeup of her owner, Arnie. Christine makes yet another attempt on the life of Leigh, this time also targeting Dennis, and all right in the salvage yard. However, she instead kills Arnie by sending him flying through her windshield and running him over. Christine next chases Leigh and Dennis all through the salvage yard and meets her end when Dennis hotwires a bulldozer and runs over Christine with it, smashing Christine to a pile of scrap metal for good. But Christine isn't done yet; she shocks the 2 friends of Arnie by playing the Ritchie Valens tune Come on, Let's Go, even though she is now just a cube of scrap metal. If you have seen this film, tell me frankly, when will it be aired on Chiller? I just wanted to know. Thanks for your indulgence. I'm 10-10 on the side, southbound and down. Oh, absolutely, lady80dead, the advisory sentence "let the buyer beware" definitely does apply to the '58 Belvedere from Hell, Christine. It certainly goes to show that when it comes to anything that people buy, even cars, always check to be certain that the product(s) that you buy don't have a mind of their own, as such a thing tends to be a very deadly threat to people, whether friends or enemies. It's just a thought. Thanks for your indulgence. MartinKandell July 18, 2008

This is one of my favorite King adaptations, right up there with Carrie and The Shining.

I've been looking for the plastic model kit of the car.
This would be an interesting build.

I also read the novel and I like the whole idea of just as in a house can hold impressions of previous dead owners, so can cars! Creepy! The movie is definitely one of the great, entertaining King adaptations. I love Keith Gordon's "Arnie" in the movie. Whilst reading the book, I very much pictured Arnie to look like Keith and that was before the movie was even a thought.

I absolutely loved the book. The movie came off as rather "flat" to me. It didn't corner very well and it stalled at the climax. I really disliked that Arnie was IN Christine at the end. Keith Gordon was excellent (as usual) playing Arnie and when I read the book again after seeing the film, he pretty much filled in the picture of my imagination. I know that people say that is a typical response to associate the actor with the book character but that is not always true. I do not picture Molly Ringwald when I imagine Frannie Goldsmith. I think Keith Gordon was playing Arnie even before Christine was released when he starred in Dressed To Kill (He just hadn't met Mr. Lebay yet!)

On the subject of cars that can kill, there is a film which was made 5 years before Christine was adapted to film, cheese. Its title is The Car, its year of release was in 1978, and if you and everyone here are interested in a detailed in-depth look at the overview in regards to this film, please feel free to check out the topic column which I've devoted to The Car. It's just something that I wished to share with you. Thanks for your indulgence. MartinKandell September 3, 2008
