For those of you who have not seen this 80s horror movie, look away. Spoilers are peppered throughout this paragraph. Those who remain, let's take a walk down memory lane and reflect on how wonderfully cheesy this flick was. Burying your dead up at the old Micmac burial ground will bring them back, but they won't be right. That's an understatement. First, let's talk about how Fred Gwynne butchered the Maine dialect, or how this was one of the first movies to hint at a Wendigo, even though we never got to see it. That always ticked me off as a kid! The one thing that always creeped me out about this movie was the sickly sister in the flashback, Zelda, with her scary face and protruding spine. Yowza! And that little kid running around with a scalpel at the end. He did have a knack for cutting Achilles tendons. The best was the last scene when the wife comes back and her eye is missing and she's clutching a butcher knife that the husband doesn't see. That's a great ending to a horror movie. Alright, now let me hear what my horror community liked or hated about this movie. I gotta go and put this on my Netflix list...

Yes, I actually read the book before I saw the movie. That didn't happen for me with a lot of Stephen King works. I was incredibly creeped out by the book, and the movie gave me the willies too! Yeah, the whole thing with Zelda was creepy, and Gage just has to be the scariest kid in a horror film ever. Well, except for maybe those damn twins in The Shining unsure.gif
Jarhead13
YES... the twins from The Shining still scare me to this day! I guess we have a lot to thank Stephen King for when it comes to iconic images in horror. That could be a whole new topic to start...
VENGER
The ending for me too jarhead. when he's walking at his mom with the scalpel , Was freeky to see. But one of the best scenes. The part of the movie i didn't care for is when the little boy was hit by the Semi.
I saw this at the outdoor theatre when it came out. And that scene was hard to watch. Other then that i still Love the movie!!
Azrael
Oh yes, Pet Sematary is also one of my favorites...one of a few that seem to do a King book justice. I remember Zelda used to creep me out in both the movie and the book. How disturbing the book described her twisted back unsure.gif and her peircing voice in the movie!

Gage was adorable and I love that name, for the longest time I wanted to name my son that. No kids yet so we'll see tongue.gif

I agree with you, Venger. I hate to see little kids hurt or killed in movies. At least they didn't show the impact. It still is one of those movies if I happen to catch on t.v. I'll watch it.

It is somewhat true to the book, as far as I can remember. Very few movies manage to capture King's stories and put them on film. Hopefully, Eli Roth can do it with CELL.

I love the movie Pet Sematary. My sister is still scared of Zelda to this day. This is a girl who watches every horror movie she can get her hands on and yet Zelda has terrified her since she was a little girl. I always got a kick out of the fact that Zelda was played by a really skinny man. I don't live too far from the house that they filmed the movie in. We snapped some pictures last time we were driving by so I figured I'd share the Pet Sematary house pictures with you. I hear you can stay at it now like a country inn. I think that would be cool to check out. biggrin.gif

All I can say about this place is....the ground is SOUR!

I'm definitely morbid enough to get a kick out of staying there a night a two that's for sure. biggrin.gif

Very cool pictures, Reacher! New England has such a great vibe to it as far as horror is concerned. The old homes and cemetaries are amazing. The whole countryside of the northeast is great, especially this time of year with the fall colors. You can't help but think of haunted houses as you drive thru those areas. I bet that B&B gets a lot of business just from movie buffs. I know I'd stay there!

I loved this movie as a kid. That little kid scared the crap out of me. The scalpel seen was horrible i had to close my eyes and peek through my fingers to watch. I would definitely want to stay there a night and check it out, maybe even bury my dead hamster there, i loved that hamster tongue.gif

Good Day,
I Said Good Day! ohmy.gif

It was the tractor and trailers that scared me as a kid. I grew up in the country, but we lived right on the main highway. Big trucks would constantly pass, and I was always afraid of going onto the road.

You know, I can see how that would be terrifying to someone who lived on a busy road like that. I know that I freak out enough about how fast people come down the road into the cul-de-sac that my sister and brother-in-law live on.

Yeah, one went off the road into our front yard when I was little and took out 2 telephone polls in the process. We were sitting in the yard and it happened about 100 feet from us. Let's just say Pet Sematary images of getting squished rolled through my head.
