I did something I never do-- I clicked on one of the advertisements. I couldn't help myself.
The title "The Burrowers" with a half buried skull. How could I resist?

So I watched the trailer and now I eagerly await the DVD release date (4.21.09) This looks
like a hella good movie.

Has anyone seen it, heard of it, or was it straight to DVD?
Jarhead13
I did the same exact thing you did, then went to Netflix and put it on my list! I never heard of it, so I'm guessing it's a straight to DVD release. That skull was enough to sell me on it!

from IMDB:

It is 1879 in the Dakota Territories. A handful of brave pioneers maintain isolated settlements in the badlands beyond civilization. Irish Immigrant Fergus Coffey is near to winning the hand of his beloved Maryanne when she is suddenly taken from him, her family brutally abducted in a nighttime attack on their homestead. Suspicion falls immediately on hostile Indians. Experienced Indian fighters Will Parcher and John Clay form a posse and set out to rescue the kidnapped settlers, taking along a naïve teenager hoping to prove himself a man, an ex-slave looking to find his place in the world and their ranch-hand, Coffey. But as men vanish in the night and horrific evidence accumulates with the dead and dying, the group discovers that their prey is far more terrifying than anything human, and their prospects are far more terrible than death.

It has Laura Leighton, so I might give it a whirl

I thought the trailer was fantastic! The eye! The eye! blink.gif

I saw this several months ago so maybe they have had some time to pull this film

together a little more. It is poorly paced with long moments of people just riding around

on horses. Most of the suspense went right out the window as soon as I saw what

they were trying to track down in all it's CGI glory. I'd say watch it but don't expect

anything TOO exciting.

Thanks, Deathboy, for the review. I'll still check it out since I'm a sucker for westerns. I hate when filmmakers rely on CGI characters. It rarely works, unless you're using ILM or Weta Workshops. I miss the old days of horror when makeup and practical f/x work were the cornerstones of horror movies.

Yes, thanks Deathboy. I really had my hopes up, so I would have been seriously pissed.

I'm still going to watch it, but now without all the expectation. tongue.gif

Sorry to be the "negative Nancy" of the board, but I just call them as I see them.

Think of it as an After Dark Horrorfest flick and you'll be in the right state of mind,

although there were several of those Horrorfest flicks this year that were really

quite great. Grab some of those (I reviewed them in critics crypt) off the shelf

before you grab The Burrowers.

laugh.gif When I saw the title, I knew that you all meant the Lionsgate movie since the ad is right there. But, I also fondly remember the book series that I read growing up that they made into a movie back in the late 90s.

No, I'm grateful. There is nothing worse than building a movie up in your mind only to have

it suck ass. dry.gif
