My name is Bres and I am a horror addict.
So.... I was watching some movie on Chiller, "LEGION OF THE DEAD" I think, and it opened with these two kids racing on their dirt bikes when one of them crashes and falls into an underground room which is the gateway to more Egyptian Evil than you could ask for. So his buddy crawls down the hole into the room to see if his friend is ok. Turns out, the crash victim is fine so the two buds celebrate by sharing a ganja steek. ("stick" to you republicans out there) Yeah, mon.
OK. Here's my thing: As the joint is passed and smoked, the scene has been edited so that the joint is always blurred out! (which is so 1960's)
WHAT'S UP WITH THAT??
PS - I'm watchin' in Phoenix
I think I saw that as well! And the really funny thing I remember is that they
blurred out the joint ONLY when it was being "hit" and right up to their lips! I find
the way censorship has evolved to be rather funny. I remember when the digital age
was starting and you could see something like JAWS on one channel where they
wouldn't even let you see the blood in the water and a "newer" edited version that
let all the violence stay in but none of the cussing or sexual references like "Here's to
swimmin' with bow-legged women". Unfortunately, America is still caught up in
"Victorian Dread" and isn't comfortable with sex and drugs (which lead to sex)
being shown so openly on television or even in movies. Violence is another thing
now and totally acceptable. I saw someone get their face ripped off in a bear trap
the other day on Sci-Fi in the afternoon! The scene wasn't cut AT ALL! So, I guess
it's fine with America to go seek revenge on someone with an axe but don't do drugs
or have intercourse as it will lead to the decline of our civilization!
If you have an interest in how the MPAA works with cutting movies, I suggest you
watch a film called "This Film is Not Yet Rated". It is on IFC from time to time and
really gives some insight on how the MPAA is just a massive FRAUD and how they can
single handedly destroy a movie if their anonymous members so choose. It's a great
documentary.
